Summary

A hypothetical route of a Roman road has been suggested along this route northwest from Attleborough towards Little Ellingham. It is tentatively suggested that the broadly straight alignment of the Attleborough road which if extended runs alongside a Roman cemetery (NHER 4257) and a Roman building remains (NHER 9095). If the projecting line of this hypothetical Roman road is extended to the northwest it joins up with Green Lane, a road formerly running alongside Goose Common. While there is currently little actual evidence for the presence of a Roman road, it is feasible one branched off from the recorded section of probable Roman road (NHER 33952) near Attleborough Hall. The Great Ellingham parish appears to have a significant cluster of Roman sites and buildings, for example see NHER 9082-3, so it may be expected to have some evidence for contemporary communications lines within the vicinity.
