Map

1968. Stray Find.
Surface find on ploughed field at [1]:
1 prehistoric quartzite macehead with hour-glass perforation. Elongated, ends slightly battered. Information from (S1) (see sketch on reverse). This discovery was reported in (S2). Although originally recorded as Bronze Age it is possible that this mace (in spite of its oval form) is an example of what would now commonly be described as a pebble macehead. These objects are not closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.
Previously recorded as NHER 7425 and under NHER 21849 (Context 2).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 16 May 2014.

November 1987. Metal-detecting.

Both badly worn.
Identified and compiled by A. Gregory (NCM) 12 November 1987.
