Summary

In 1964 a 17th century brick barrel-vaulted undercroft was discovered during the excavation of a trench west of the King Street frontage.

29 October 1964.
Around 112ft (34m) west of King Street building frontage while digging trench for electric cable, the top of a brick built barrel-vaulted undercroft was pierced. This ran north to south roughly at right angles to Stepping Lane. Reinforced concrete filling has been inserted under surface boundary wall on north side and more to south, close to south side boundary (now demolished) largely filled with building debris and other 19th century rubbish.
Floor level could not be ascertained.
Probably 17th century (A. B. Whittingham).
