Summary

A test pit excavated at this location in 2012 recovered a range of finds including prehistoric worked flint flakes; potentially prehistoric burnt flints; Late Saxon, medieval and medieval/post-medieval pottery sherds; post-medieval clay pipe fragments and a range of modern and undated material.

July 2012. Test Pit.
A 1m x 1m testpit was excavated by members of the NHES as part of the Time and Tide Archaeology Day.
Finds recovered included:
4 prehistoric flint flakes.
3 ?prehistoric flint 'pot boilers'.
12 Late Saxon pottery sherds (Thetford ware).
4 medieval pottery sherds (early medieval).
1 medieval/medieval pottery sherd (Midland black ware).
4 post-medieval clay pipe fragments.
4 undated slag fragments, 60 ceramic building material fragments, 20 vessel glass fragments, 3 animal bone fragments.
