Summary

Bowthorpe Hall is a large, two storey brick house constructed by Sir Robert Yallop in the 17th century, replacing an earlier hall. During World War Two it was leased to the RAF, and in 1966 it was leased by the Bell School of Languages to house their summer school. Soon afterwards, Bowthorpe Hall became the permanent location of The Bell School.

Bowthorpe Hall is a large, two storey brick house constructed by Sir Robert Yallop in the 17th century (S1), replacing an earlier hall. The hall was greatly altered and extended in the 19th century, and during World War Two it was leased to the RAF (S1). In 1966 it was leased by the Bell School of Languages to house their summer school and soon afterwards it became the permanent location of The Bell School (S1).

October 1951. Listed. Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
"Large house, now school. C17 with facade C1700. Red brick with rendered plinth; 4 brick chimneys (3 re-built) T-Plan. 2 storeys; main facade: 6-window range, symmetrical. Panelled (formerly double- leaf ?) door in moulded wooden architrave is flanked by rusticated Ionic pilasters, under a pediment."
