Full Description
Pre 1922.
Neolithic worked flints recovered from Santon Warren by H. D. Hewitt in the early 20th century. These finds were recorded as coming from his Site XXIII** (a subsite of his much larger 'Santon Warren East' Site XXIII). This subsite was described, according to (S1), as consisting of Half-Moon Plantation and the breck down toward the railway. Half-Moon Plantation, although no longer present, can be clearly seen on the 1st Edition O.S map, allowing this site to be mapped reasonably precisely. See NHER 5657 for information of the finds Hewitt recovered from the much larger Site XXIII.
This assemblage is now held by the NCM (NWHCM : 1922.39 : A) and was examined by F. Healy (S1). She identified the following Neolithic tools;
1 Plano-convex knife
4 Flaked discoidal knives (1 quadrangular)
