Summary

Various Mesolithic and Neolithic worked flints found during several fieldwalking events in the vicinity of the Blood Hill barrow (NHER 5655). These discoveries were previously recorded under NHER 5655.

Various prehistoric worked flints found in the immediate vicinity of the Blood Hill barrow (NHER 5655) and on the land to the east.

1973. Stray Finds.
Found along a 20m length of the track 50m south of barrow:
1 Mesolithic flint thumbnail scraper and flakes. Donated to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1974.161). Some apparently drawn (no copies held by HES). These discoveries were reported in (S1). Previously recorded under NHER 5655. See notes in file for NHER 5655.

1977. Stray Finds.
Found in area to north-east of barrow, in clearing where trees had been uprooted leaving holes 1m deep (an area of c. 100m2):
3 Neolithic retouched flint flakes, 1 scraper, 2 retouched blades, 5 flakes and 1 core. Identified by A. Lawson (NAU).

July 1985. Unsystematic fieldwalking.
Found by J. J. Wymer (NAU) during routine visit to Blood Hill Barrow, among stumps of uprooted trees c. 100m north and east of barrow:
1 Neolithic two-platform prismatic flint core, 3 flakes, 3 blades and 1 retouched flake. These objects are now held by the NCM (NWHCM : 1985.387).

July 1985. Sytematic fieldwalking.
Fieldwalking over area to east and north-east of Blood Hill, where trees were felled in late 1984 to early 1985. Ground much disturbed, holes up to 1.5m deep exposing very chalky till:
1 Neolithic broken, patinated flaked flint axe, 1 roughout/crude core, 1 blade, 3 scrapers and 1 borer.
A very thin yield for such a large area of breck. See detailed plot in file.

December 1985. Unsystematic fieldwalking.
Prehistoric flints found by J. J. Wymer on levelled surface of deforested area c. 30m south of barrow. Scatter of struck flint containing:
2 Neolithic slightly patinated flint cores, 1 small end scraper and 1 bifacial roughout, possibly for a pick.
