Full Description
1968. Stray Find.
2 Palaeolithic flint implements. These discoveries were reported in (S1) and the finds themselves are now held by King's Lynn Museum. Although they are listed as coming from Narford, the grid reference given for one of these objects places it on the opposite side of the river, in East Walton parish.
Both objects are described in (S1) as being cleavers and one is still identified as such in the museum records (KILLM : 1968.8). The second object is however almost certainly an implement listed in the museum's records as a handaxe (KILLM : 1968.14); being recorded as found by the same person and in the same year as the cleaver. This handaxe is described by Wymer on (S2) and in (S3) as a flat-butted cordate (Wymer Type N) - a form typically associated with Late Middle Palaeolithic activity. Wymer makes no mention of the cleaver, perhaps suggesting it is not in fact Palaeolithic. The handaxe is also the only find from this site listed in (S4) and (S5). It is also listed as a potentially Middle Palaeolithic implement in (S6).
These finds were previously recorded under NHER 3974.
