Summary

An examination of various privately-held collections identified a range of prehistoric objects recorded as being from this area. Although there is a degree of possible overlap it appears that the bulk of this material is distinct from the finds previously recorded as coming from the individual fields (NHER 22311 etc). A large number of worked flints were identified, including pieces of probable Mesolitic and Neolithic date. A range of other objects were also present include a saddle quern, a Neolithic stone axe and sherds of Early Neolithic and indeterminate prehistoric pottery.

Pre 1981. Stray Find.
An examination of various privately-held collections by F. Healy identified a range of prehistoric objects that are recorded as having been recovered in this area. These finds were all in the collection of [1] and appear to represent material collected across three separate fields (old O.S fields 728-730, Curtis Fields 16, 21B and 21C), two of which have now been amalgamated (NHER 22311). These finds appear to be mostly distinct from those recorded elsewhere, also there is possibly some duplication (particular with finds recorded under NHER 22311).

The objects in this collection included:
2 Mesolithic 'truncated pieces'.
36 ?Mesolithic single-platform cores (predominantly small blade cores).
39 ?Mesolithic multi-platform cores (predominantly small blade cores).
1 Early Neolithic pottery sherd (flint-tempered bowl with out-turned rim).
2 Neolithic axes (1 ground, 1 miniature).
1 Neolithic stone axe. Made of a coarse greenstone with black flecks (?Cornish diorite), cutting edge ground or worn blunt and smooth.
3 indeterminate prehistoric pottery sherds (flint-tempered).
10 keeled cores.
3 core fragments.
1 core trimming flake.
29 flakes.
5 blades.
7 ?arrowhead blanks.
121 scrapers.
1 awl.
4 scale-flaked knives.
28 misc. retouched pieces.
2 hammerstones.
1 saddle quern made of tabular flint.

Information from (S1). These finds were previously noted under NHER 22311.
