Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting at this site prior to and during 1997 recovered a number of objects including a possible Mesolithic flint pick; undatable prehistoric and Neolithic worked flints; medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds and post-medieval coins.

Pre 29 January 1997. Fieldwalking.
Found by [1] during examination of recently cleaned-out ditch at northern edge of field:
1 undatable prehistoric flint piercer, 1 notched/hollow scraper, 1 spurred piece, 1 notched flake and 15 flakes.
2 Neolithic flint flake cores and 1 core scraper.
1 medieval pottery sherd.

3 May-5 June 1997. Fieldwalking.
Examination of large cleared area in central part of field (128m N/S x 55m E/W). Walked on several occasions following removal of previous year’s crop, but prior to ploughing. Finds recovered included:
1 undatable prehistoric large flint core, 1 thick scraper and 8 flakes.
1 ?Mesolithic possible broken end of a flint pick. Triangular-shaped implement with heavy retouch on one side.
9 post-medieval pottery sherds (2 uncollected), 4 ?tile fragments and 1 glass bottle top.

Undatable/modern melted scrap lead and copper alloy debris.
