1985. Stray Find.
Prehistoric quartzite macehead found at unknown location in Foulsham. This object was brought to the Norwich Castle Museum in 1985 but never collected - it was accessioned into the museum's collections in 2001 (NWHCM : 2001.85).

The nature of this object is not clear from the brief description listed in the museum's records. It is possible that it is a pebble mace, which are frequently made of quartzite. These simply maceheads (unmodified apart from their central perforation) are not closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.
