Full Description
1999. Fieldwalking.
Area of examined included earthwork site (NHER 21744) and field to north.
From general area (mostly field to north):
Neolithic/Bronze Age worked flints including 1 hinge-fracture flake, 1 notched piece and 1 blade core.
5 Roman pottery sherds (greyware)
1 medieval brick.
Post-medieval pottery sherds (much Glazed Red Earthenware, stone ware and late post-medieval).
3 undatable pottery sherds.
From north-east corner of earthwork field (Context 1; previously NHER 21744 Context 3):
?Prehistoric "red flints" and concentration of potboilers.
1 prehistoric small chipped flint axe. Dimensions 110mm by 40mm, much iron-stained; appears Neolithic yet may have a tranchet blow.
Finds identified by K. Penn (NAU) and E. Rose (NLA), except "red flints", which were not seen. See notes and location plan in file.
