Summary

In 1970 a Mesolithic flint tranchet axehead was found in this field. Subsequent metal-detecting in 1997 and 1999 recovered Roman and medieval coins and several other metal objects, including Roman tweezers; a Late Saxon stirrup/box mount; a medieval brooch and a medieval/post-medieval buckle.

1 Mesolithic flint tranchet axhead. Donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1970.370). Information from (S1). This discovery was first reported in (S2). Also listed in (S3) and briefly described in (S4).

Small 2mm thick copper alloy sheet in approx. form of an Late Saxon stirrup/box mount, flange missing at base and one central hole (diameter 9mm).
Height 28mm, max. width 28mm.
May, of course, be of another date and function.
Identified V. Fryer (NCM).
Pair of copper alloy tweezers, slight sign beneath corrosion of pair of fine engraved longitudinal lines on one face. Ovoid loop, arms gently expanding to inturned `blades'. Length 48mm. Probably Roman.
