May 1978. Field Observation.
Ironbound conglomerate in tower and west quoins. Very much altered, but perhaps early 14th century - see tower, chancel arch, and piscina. South porch has cusped lancets, but in part renewed. One south chancel window Decorative/Perpendicular could be original, but all other windows 19th century - southeast cusped lancet is set in a larger blocked window. North chancel wall rebuilt in brick. To north, ruined St Mary's Chapel, in flint with brick putlog holes but no dating evidence. Arch from nave now contains window. Corbel on chancel south wall. Rood stair upper door. Brass plaque 1481. Jacobean panelling in sanctuary from Wolterton Church via Mannington Hall. 19th century box pews with poppyheads supposed to be older. Pulpit called Jacobean but doubtful. Royal arms William IV 1833. Hill organ from Horsford. South door dated 1748. Chalice, ?pre-reformation; paten.

E. Rose (NAU), 11 May 1978.

Tom Martin (S2) in 1731 noted the north aisle decayed and ash trees growing inside. It is possible this description may refer to St Mary's Chapel rather than the church. Two crossed coffic slabs in churchyard.

E. Rose (NAU).

1986. Verbal Communication.
Diocesan furnishings officer states that the sanctuary east wall panelling is 19th century, not 17th century (Jacobean) as stated in 1978. Specialist Stephen Heywood has confirmed the 19th-20th century date following an inspection.
The status of the the panelling from Wolterton Church noted in 1978 is uncertain.
