Full Description
Watermill.
Supposed to have been a mill on this site in Domesday Book, and another nearby.
Present building said to be of 1699, which is probably correct.
Mill is weatherboarded with sack hoist on brick substructure with buttress like a shaped gable!
Miller's house attached of 4 bays, 2 storeys, with dentiled cornice and wood-columned porch; dormers added in 19th century.
See (S1).
All well restored and used as private house.
Visited E. Rose (NAU) 10 May 1978.
The mill house garden contains a number of follies of carrstone and some of brick, tower, grotto, castle etc., but all seem to be of 20th century date.
E. Rose (NAU) 2 April 1982.
(S1) notes date of 1699 is on sluice arch.
Waterwheel was removed in 1939 but the mill was used until 1965.
Mill house has 2 bays of 18th century date and two more added, with dormers, windows etc in 1880.
E. Rose (NAU) 9 July 1986.
