Summary

A trial trench excavated at this site in 2000 revealed a complex series of medieval features including several pits and a hearth. The presence of metal working debris suggests that smelting or smithing was taking place on the site during the medieval period. Although some Late Saxon pottery was recovered it appeared that pre-Conquest material had been redeposited in later contexts.
