Full Description
2000. Systematic Fieldwalking Survey.
Non-collection fieldwalking undertaken as part of archaeological assessment of Holkham Estate (Field 10).
To the east of Burnham Overy Staithe, a set of undated cropmarks could represent house sites or paddocks. The west part of the field, some 200 by 400m was walked in small transects in an attempt to define and characterise undated cropmark features that could represent house sites or paddocks (NHER 12984).
The finds came mostly from over the cropmarks and were:
Thin scatter of prehistoric flints from over the walked area.
Thin concentration of Roman greyware sherds in the north-west corner of the field, over the cropmarks.
See report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).
K. Penn (NAU) 2 March 2001. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 22 April 2015.
