Summary

In 2003 three trenches were excavated along the route of the A11 Attleborough Bypass Improvement Scheme. Features identified included several undated possible pits and a number of post-medieval linear features. The latter are presumable associated with the medieval to post-medieval cropmark features previously identified in this area (NHER 20028). Finds were limited to a prehistoric flint blade and a small assemblage of post-medieval objects.

September-October 2003. Trial Trenching.
Three trenches excavated on route of A11 Attleborough Bypass Improvement Scheme (Trenches 8-10), these placed to investigate the possible location of an undated former road (NHER 20028) possible associated with Attleborough Hall.
Several ditches and a gully of probable post-medieval date were identified in one of the trenches. Another of the trenches exposed four possible pits and several features that following excavation were deemed to be natural. A single flint blade of possible Neolithic date was the only find recovered from the pits.
See report (S2) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S3).
Previously recorded under NHER 39690.
