Full Description
1968 to 1972.
Fieldwalking and part excavation of possible medieval pottery production site.
Medieval to post medieval sherds and Neolithic axe; wall and hearth.
Possible Early Saxon sherd. See drawings (S1) and (S2).
1970. Stray Find.
Found by [1] at Context 3 ([2]):
1 Neolithic polished flint axe. Not initially seen by NCM but amongst a collection a flint object that were seen and drawn in 1991 - see below.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 24 June 2014.
1986.
Found with metal detector.
Medieval metalwork and coins, post medieval metalwork, also medieval to post medieval pottery.
Potboilers, Neolithic flint.
See detailed list in secondary file.
See site plans (S3).
E. Rose (NLA), 19 March 1990.
Pre 1990. Stray Find.
In 1991 a number of flint implements from Trunch were seen by J. J. Wymer (NAU) and drawn by P. Robins (NCM). These appear to have been objects found by [1] and were identified as:
2 Neolithic flaked flint axeheads, one reminiscent of Mesolithic. See (S4), which notes that both are possibly Mesolithic.
1 Neolithic flint pick. See (S5).
2 Neolithic polished axeheads. Late Neolithic, one very late. See (S6) and (S7). One was probably the axehead that had been found and reported in 1970 (see above).
It was noted that the finder was very vague about the provenance of these objects, and that one or more may be from the area of NHER 28291.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 24 June 2014.
