Full Description
A former waterworks pumping station established in 1914. The earlier of the two main red brick buildings houses Ruston and Hornsby diesel engines. The later building dates from 1956/7 and was designed to supplement the diesel driven pumps with an electric motor by local firm Lawrence Scott and Electromotors Ltd which drove a vertical spindle pump. In 1963, a further electric motor and pump were installed.
Copies of historic plans and drawings (S1)-(S4) relating to the site and equipment were obtained, and a report on the historic interest of the 1957 electric installation (S5) was prepared in 1998 when options for the preservation of the site were being actively considered.
The pumping station is redundant but preserved.
A. Yardy (HES), 15 February 2015.
January 1998. Heritage Assessment and Photogarphic Survey.
An assessment of the preservation value of the Horning electric engine pumping equipment was undertaken. Preservation as a atatic exhibit or as a fully operating system were considered. The preparatory work included a photogaphic survey of the electrical equipment in the pump house and the exterior of the buildings as well as preparation of a layout of the plant.
See unpublished report (S5) and photographs (S6).
