Map

December 2010. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
An undated ditch that appeared in two of the trenches was the only archaeological feature identified. This feature does not appear on any recent maps and was therefore most likely dug before this land became part of Shipdham Hall Park at some point prior to or during the early 19th century. A sample taken from the fill of this ditch produced few charred plant remains, although it was noted that some of the charcoal/charred wood fragments were relatively large, suggesting that the source was fairly close by.
An area of recent disturbance observed in one of the central trenches was probably the result of tree clearances in the latter half of the 20th century.
No archaeologically significant finds were recovered during this work.
See report (S1) for further details.
The archive associated with this work has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2011.196).
