October 2015-January 2016. Metal-detecting. [1].
Parts of two Iron Age probable musical rattles or sinstra. The objects consist of 15 complete and fragmentary copper alloy hops of varying sizes, and 3 copper alloy sheet fragments attached to an iron strip. The latter object is likely part of a sistrum base.
Individual sistra are known archaeologically from contemporary graves in Southern Italy, but the number of hoops present in this find suggests it consists of more than one example.
Information from PAS import.
Found at [2].
The Iron Age probable musical rattles or sinstra were declared Treasure at inquest (Ref: 2017 T3), and acquired by Norwich Castle Museum.
E. McDonald (HES), 1 April 2019.
