Summary

A geophysical survey of this site undertaken in 2015 identified only limited evidence for archaeologically significant remains. Two linear ditch-like anomalies in the south-western corner of the site appear to represent two sides of an undated enclosure. The majority of the anomalies detected elsewhere on the site are of probable geological or agricultural origin.

Map

September 2015. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
A group of linear anomalies in the south-west corner of the site were the only clear evidence for potentially archaeologically significant remains. Two of these features are likely to represent infilled ditches and appear to form two sides of an enclosure.
An area of enhanced magnetic soils and a ditch-like feature in the centre of the site may relate to former industrial activity.
The majority of the anomalies identified are however clearly linear and polygonal periglacial features (a typical example of so-called ‘patterned ground’). A ditch-like linear anomaly in the northern part of the site is thought to be of likely agricultural origin.
See report (S1) for further details.
