Summary

A rectangular enclosure of unknown date is visible as an earthwork on lidar imagery from a survey flown in 2015. Its relationship with modern roads and boundaries, and those depicted on 19th century maps, suggests that a post medieval date is likely. Its use is perhaps related to warrening, stock management, heathland management or temporary cultivation. It is also possible that it relates to a 'Lodge' marked at this approximate location on Faden's 1797 Map of Norfolk, but this is far from certain. Probable 20th-century military practice trenches within the enclosure (NHER 63338) are presumed to post-date its main use. It is very likely that the earthworks visible on the lidar still survive.
