Summary

Metal-detecting at this location in 2016 recovered Middle Saxon and Late Saxon coins and a notable assemblage of Middle to Late Saxon metalwork, comprising Middle Saxon pins, a strap end and tweezers; Middle/Late Saxon hooked tags, strap ends and a silver pin and Late Saxon strap ends, finger rings, an Anglo-Scandinavian Trefoil brooch, rotary key (for mounted lock) and lead alloy weight with silver plate mounted in the top. Other finds recovered include a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age flint end scraper; Middle Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Late Iron Age/Roman (Roman issue) and medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons and a number of other Roman and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include Roman brooches, an amphora-shaped strap end and silver finger ring; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval harness fitting; medieval/post-medieval copper alloy rings and lead weights and a post-medieval rowel spur, sword-belt mount, crotal bell, knife handle, tail-piece or end-piece from a musket ramrod holder, toy fork and lead.

13 Roman coins, brooches, an amphora-shaped strap end and silver finger ring in the form of a double-headed snake.
10 Middle Saxon coins, 1 pottery sherd, pins, a strap end and tweezers.
Middle/Late Saxon hooked tags, strap ends and a silver gilt ball-headed pin.

16 medieval coins, 1 jetton, 3 pottery sherds, buckles, strap loops, a strap end, belt mount, bar mount and harness fitting.
Medieval/post-medieval copper alloy rings and lead weights.
1 post-medieval jetton, 1 pottery sherd, a rowel spur, sword-belt mount, finger ring, crotal bell, knife handle, tail-piece or end-piece from a musket ramrod holder, toy fork and lead cloth seal.

The Roman silver ring, the Middle/Late Saxon silver pin and the Late Saxon lead and silver weight were all submitted as potential Treasure (Refs: 2016T1007, 2016 T1009 and 2016 T1008 respectively). The Middle/Late Saxon silver pin was declared Treasure at inquest and acquired by Norwich Castle Museum [2].
