Summary

Metal-detecting in 2017 recovered a Late Bronze Age hoard consisting of socketed axes, a spearhead, unidentified objects and casting waste including sprues.

12 February 2017. Metal-detecting Rally. [1].
2 pieces of copper alloy casting waste.

19-20 February 2017. Excavation.
Late Bronze Age metalwork hoard of 37 objects recovered from a single deposit 38cm to 50cm in depth. Two fragments were found elsewhere in the 'general area', suggesting previous disturbance.
25 complete and incomplete socketed axes of South Eastern, Yorkshire, and Meldreth types.
1 socketed spearhead.
4 unidentified objects, socketed artefacts in numerous fragments.
2 single and 1 double casting waste sprue, and 4 casting waste pieces additional to the 2 recovered above.

The Late Bronze Age hoard was submitted at possible Treasure (Ref: 2017 T167), disclaimed and subsequently donated to Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2018.34).
