Summary

Broadly circular vegetation marks visible on aerial photographs could feasibly represent the infilled remains of flint mines, perhaps of Neolithic date. They are of a comparable size and shape to the Neolithic flint mines at Grimes Graves (NHER 5640), which lie approximately 1.5km to the southwest. Similar marks are visible in the adjacent block of plantation to the east (NHER 62019).

Broadly circular vegetation marks visible on aerial photographs (S1) could feasibly represent the infilled remains of flint mines, perhaps of Neolithic date. They are of a comparable size and shape to the Neolithic flint mines at Grimes Graves (NHER 5640), which lie approximately 1.5km to the southwest. A number of the most distinct marks have been mapped individually, but they could extend across the entire area. Similar marks are visible in the adjacent block of plantation to the east (NHER 62019).
