Summary

Two sections of parallel bank, one of which could instead be a long mound, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs. Neither is dated. They could be part of post-medieval boundary banks. If the northernmost bank is instead a mound, its function is uncertain but it could again be of post-medieval date. It could equally be of modern origin, perhaps related to 20th century military activity in the area. An irregular, poorly defined mound remains visible at the site on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015.

Map

May 2019. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme [1].
Two sections of parallel bank, one of which could instead be a long mound, are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs (S1)-(S2). Neither is dated, but the northernmost feature at least appears relatively fresh and well defined on the 1940s aerial photographs; the southern feature is less clear. They could be part of post-medieval boundary banks; although the banks themselves are not depicted, the southernmost bank continues the line of a boundary depicted on historical Ordnance Survey maps. If the northernmost bank is instead a mound, its function is uncertain but it could again be of post-medieval date. It could equally be of modern origin, perhaps related to 20th century military activity in the area. An irregular, poorly defined mound remains visible at the site on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015 (S3).
