Summary

In 2016 Mesolithic flint blade cores and a Neolithic polished flint axehead fragment were found by chance at this location. Metal-detecting between 2010 and 2024 recovered Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman tile fragments (including box flue tile); potentially Roman copper alloy metal-working debris and iron smelting slag; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins and a number of other Late Iron Age/Roman to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include an undatable possible ingot of unidentified metal; a Late Iron Age/Roman brooch; a Roman brooch, bracelet fragment, bell, bucket escutcheon and copper alloy ingot (possibly connected to the production of irregular radiate coinage during the late 3rd century); medieval strap fittings and a buckle; medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragments and iron padlock fragments and post-medieval buttons.
