Summary

A group of boundaries, trackways and blocks of ridge and furrow or cultivation/plantation ridges, all of probable post-medieval date, is visible as earthworks, principally on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015, but with certain elements visible on aerial photographs. The boundaries and tracks are, for the most part, not depicted on 19th-century maps, and are presumably of earlier date, but they are still post-medieval in character and appearance. The ridges could relate to ridge and furrow, the growing of fodder crops for rabbits, or to the establishment of early plantations.

Map

April 2017. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
A group of boundaries, trackways and blocks of ridge and furrow or cultivation/plantation ridges, all of probable post-medieval date, is visible as earthworks, principally on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015 (S1), but with certain elements visible on aerial photographs (such as (S2) and (S3)). The boundaries and tracks are, for the most part, not depicted on the Tithe Map (S4) or the Ordnance Survey First Edition 6 inch map (S5), and are presumably of earlier date, but they are still post-medieval in character and appearance (although an earlier origin cannot be ruled out). The ridges could relate to ridge and furrow, the growing of fodder crops for rabbits, or to the establishment of early plantations. An area of braided trackway (at TL 8461 8950), which is confused with a number of modern plantation boundaries and divisions, has been mapped by extent.
