Summary

An area of former possible earthworks of uncertain date and archaeological significance are visible on aerial photographs. The site also included some possible low curving banks of unknown date potentially surviving on the 0.5m resolution Lidar data. The vast majority of the features are detectable in the 1940s within sparse tree cover of a relatively newly planted area of trees. Consequently the possible earthworks can’t be identified with any great certainty.

An area of former possible earthworks of uncertain date and archaeological significance are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The site also included some possible low curving banks of unknown date potentially surviving on the 0.5m resolution Lidar data (S4). The vast majority of the features are detectable in the 1940s (S1-S3) within sparse tree cover of a relatively newly planted area of trees. Consequently the possible earthworks can’t be identified with any great certainty. The main component consisting of an area of possible ditched and embanked boundaries and enclosures within the northern part of the site. See NHER 62102 for possible ridge and furrow or cultivation/plantation ridges recorded in this area on the lidar, which could suggest that these possible earthworks visible on the historic aerial photographs could relate to relatively recent activity possible associated with the planation regime. No clear trace of these features surviving as earthworks could be detected on the lidar data (S4).
