Summary

Brick-built barn of eight bays with internal timber frame. Tree-ring analysis undertaken in 2013 found that the majority of the timbers sample had come from trees that had probably been felled in a single episode during the early 17th century (between 1614 and 1626). One of the ceiling beams sampled was however found to be from a tree felled during the mid 18th century, suggesting the barn underwent some form of alteration or repair around this time.

Map

Brick-built barn of eight bays with internal timber frame. On both ground and first floor there are timber-framed partition walls, although there is no timberwork to the main, exterior walls at either level. An open joint in the brickwork has led to speculation that the two ends of the barn are of different dates, or that it has been affected by some disturbance or alteration at some point.

July 2013. Dendrochronological Survey.
Tree-ring analysis of roof timbers, ceiling beams, partition wall and window jamb. The dated samples suggest that the trees used for these timbers were all probably cut as part of single episode of felling at some point between 1614 and 162. A further sample was taken from a ground floor ceiling beam, which was found to be from a tree that had probably been felled between 1726 and 1751.
