Full Description
Site of Nos 60 and 62 Chapelfield Road. Demolished as part of road improvement works.
March 1968. Building Survey.
Surveys of Nos 60 and 62 Chapelfield Road, probably undertaken as part of work by University of East Anglia (UEA).
Both houses had Georgian brick fronts although it appeared that brickwork at the rear of No 60 was of an earlier date. The remains of the city wall were visible to the west of No 60 and ran through the centre of the properties. It was observed that there was a drop of three feet between the front rooms and the rear rooms on the other side of the city wall.
Both houses were largely roofed with slate, the exception being the rear of No 62, which was tile. It was suggested that these tiles may have been 17th century. An examination of the interior of No 62 revealed that the orginal straw roofing material lay beneath the tile roof.
There were sash windows in all rooms with original wooden shutters.
