Summary

The steam tug 'Victoria' of Yarmouth struck Church Rock, located about 150 yards east of the end of Cromer Pier (NHER 39328) in August 1888. The steamer was carrying 100 passengers at the time. Unfortunately, the tug sank and was unrecoverable. The ruin was later destroyed by the Navy, using explosives, in order to remove the hazard to other ships. Sometime before 1982 a dive was organized by the Great Yarmouth Museum to retrieve part of the wreck.

Steam tug 'Victoria' of Yarmouth struck Church Rock, located about 150 yards east of the end of the Cromer Pier (NHER 39328). The steamer was carrying 100 passengers at the time. Unfortunately, the steamer sank and was unrecoverable.
The Cromer Museum collections include a contemporary photograph showing the Victoria upended at low tide.
The ruin was later destroyed, with the use of explosives planted by the Navy, in order to remove the hazard to other ships.
Victoria House, Jetty Street, Cromer (NHER 47472) is said to have been named after this wreck.

Before 1982. Marine recovery.
A dive was organised in order to retrieve part of the wreck of the Steam Tug Victoria for the Great Yarmouth Museum (See NHER ???? for further details of the wreck), located at Church Rock. The diver indicated that he observed the walls and doorway of the church as well as the footings of houses along the road.
