Map

October-November 2016. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of new detached structure and extensions to existing building.
The various footing trenches excavated revealed no archaeologically significant features or deposits. The natural boulder clay was found to be overlain by a silty clay that was interpreted as a water lain or heavily water-affected flood deposit. This layer was sealed by a thick layer of redeposited clay that probably represented part of an artificial mount on which Brook House had been built. There was evidence that the underlying deposits had been disturbed during this original phase of construction.
No finds were recovered.
See report (S1) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2021.185).
