Summary

Ridges, reminiscent of ridge and furrow and probably of post medieval date, are visible as earthworks on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015. They could relate to the temporary intake of this area for arable agriculture, they could have been used for the cultivation of fodder crops for rabbits, or they could be associated with an early forestry plantation.

Map

February 2018. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
Ridges, reminiscent of ridge and furrow and probably of post medieval date, are visible as earthworks on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015 (S1). They could relate to the temporary intake of this area for arable agriculture, they could have been used for the cultivation of fodder crops for rabbits, or they could be associated with an early forestry plantation. Similar blocks of ridges have been identified widely across the project area. At this site, the ridges may overlie a boundary bank of probable medieval or post medieval date (part of NHER 62073) but the relationship is not entirely clear. Given the recent date of the lidar survey, it is likely that the ridges still survive.
