Summary

Ash and darkened soil were seen in a restricted area after it had been deep ploughed and pottery sherds were collected from the surface. Topsoil removal revealed a possible pit around 1.3m in diameter with heavy ash content and containing Middle or Late Bronze Age pottery sherds. This feature was thought to be a possible hearth. In the same year a fragment of a Late Bronze Age copper alloy blade was found on the ploughed surface. It is thought to be of late Ewart Park type, and date to the 8th century BC. Metal-detecting in 2011 and 2012 recovered Roman coins, further Late Bronze Age sword fragments, a Late Saxon unidentified object and post-medieval dagger quillons, a trade weight and dress-fastener.
