Full Description
June 2012. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed redevelopment area.
A ditch and a single pit were the only potentially archaeologically significant features observed, neither of which produced any dating evidence. The ditch had a north-north-east to south-south-west alignment, similar to that of nearby late 19th-century boundaries depicted on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map. The pit was a very shallow feature with an unremarkable fill.
No finds were recovered during this work.
A subsoil of varying depth was noted in all four of the trenches excavated.
See report (S1) for further details.
The archive associated with this work has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.556).
P. Watkins (HES), 16 April 2018.
December 2012-May 2013. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of new care home.
An initial phase of monitoring during the demolition of the former school buildings recorded no archaeologically significant features or deposits. The subsequent monitoring of foundation trenches for the new building had similarly negative results, although it should be noted that only foundations for the south-eastern wing were actually examined.
No finds were recovered during this work.
See report (S2) for further details.
The archive associated with this work has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.169).
