Map

May-June 2012. Walkover Survey.
Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey of Staithe Wood (Compartment 3a).
A linear ridge was identified running between TF 8865 4354 and TF 8875 4355 (Site 9). This feature is c. 10m wide and potentially represents a remnant of an east-to-west aligned medieval road depicted on a map of 1590 (S1). This road predated the park and ran between the Burnhams and the area of Well next the Sea then known as The Staithe. Similarly-aligned cropmarks believed to represent features associated with a section of this road have been identified approximately 500m to the east (NHER 11315).
See report (S2) for further details.
