Summary

A Rapid Identification Survey undertaken in 2012 identified a broad linear depression with banked sides at this location. These earthworks are thought to represent traces of a former road or track of possible medieval date.

Archaeological Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey within Old Common Plantation (Compartment 9).
A roughly east-to-west aligned 5m wide depression with banked sides up to 0.5m high was identified between TF 9020 4147 and TF 9032 4149 (Site 20). This has been interpreted as a former track or road line and was potentially one of the various medieval routeways that crossed this former common.
It is infilled at its eastern end with construction material for the adjancent track.
