Full Description
November 2018. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
A possible Bronze Age round barrow is visible as an earthwork on imagery from a 2015 lidar survey (S1). It could be part of what appears to be a large, dispersed, Bronze Age round barrow cemetery (NHER 62464). It is, however, rather low and flat, and could instead be a circular platform or even enclosure, perhaps related to the medieval to post-medieval Thetford Warren (NHER 54069). In the latter case, it is most likely to be post medieval, as it is similar in its size and shape to other small enclosures and/or platforms of this probable date recorded across the warren (for example, NHER 62470 located 187m to the east. As it is poorly defined, it could equally be of natural origin, or the up cast material along the forest ride that appears to ‘cut’ its southern side. As the lidar was flown relatively recently, the feature is likely to still survive as an earthwork.
