Full Description
December 2018. 'Brecks from Above' and Breckland National Mapping Programme.
A small circular enclosure, of unknown but probable post-medieval date, is visible as an earthwork on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015 (S1). It is one of several similar enclosures mapped across this portion of Thetford Warren (NHER 54069; see NHER 61552 and NHER 61553 430m and 490m to the east and southeast). Like other, similar enclosures mapped elsewhere in the wider landscape, and the many rectilinear enclosures of similar size that have also been mapped, it is likely that it relates to warrening. As it also lies in close proximity to some possible barrow mounds (NHER 61555, NHER 61556, and NHER 62477), it is possible that it is instead prehistoric in date and related to funerary activity, but this is less likely. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is probable that the earthwork still survives.
