Summary

A large rectilinear enclosure, of unknown but probable post-medieval date, is visible as an earthwork on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015. It lies within Thetford Warren (NHER 54069) and may have been associated with the management or trapping of rabbits. Alternatively, it could have been used to enclose an area used for growing forage crops for the rabbits, for grazing livestock, for arable agriculture or for an early forestry plantation, for example. A second, similar enclosure has been mapped 650m to the north (NHER 62114). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is probable that the earthworks still survive.

A large rectilinear enclosure, of unknown but probable post-medieval date, is visible as an earthwork on imagery from a lidar survey flown in 2015 (S1). The enclosure forms a relatively discrete element within a very extensive multi-phase landscape of enclosures, boundaries, trackways and cultivation/plantation ridges, visible as earthworks across Thetford Warren (NHER 61542). A second, similar enclosure has been mapped 650m to the north (NHER 62114), and many of the Breckland warrens covered by the survey have been notable for the extent of enclosure within them. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is probable that the earthworks still survive.
