Summary

Good quality cast iron lamp post of 1887, originally a Jubilee memorial fountain. Removed from the Market Place when the present War Memorial was built. It is listed Grad II.

"Originally Jubilee memorial fountain, dated 1887. Cast iron, ornamented with leaf motifs. Square plinth with lamp column and bracketted top."

Adjacent to the Obelisk (NHER 17829) is a cast iron Victoria Jubilee (1887) lamp post removed from the site in the Market Place presently occupied by the War Memorial. It is an object of some quality in its own right and has been suggested as being manufactured by McFarlane's of Glasgow. Restored 1995.
