Summary

Trial trenching at this site in 2008 uncovered two poorly-dated ditches one of which was regarded as potentially prehistoric due to the presence of two flint flakes. The alignment of the second ditch suggested it was probably a much more recent feature. A Roman brooch and a medieval coin were recovered during the monitoring of subsequent groundworks in 2009/2010 but no additional archaeologically-significant remains were observed.

Map

September-November 2008. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Sheringham Shoals Offshore Windfarm Grid Connection cable (Trench 50).
The single trench excavated at this location exposed two intersecting ditches, one aligned north-west to south-east and the other west-north-west to east-south-east. Two Neolithic/Bronze Age flint flakes were recovered from the former and as a result this feature was seen as potentially prehistoric. The second ditch produced no finds but was probably of much more recent date, its alignment being similar to that of the adjacent extant field boundary.
