Summary

Archaeological work at this site between 2008 and 2010 revealed a pit of possible prehistoric date several ditches, at least two of which were probably post-medieval. These features were all identified during trial trenching in 2008. A watching brief maintained during subsequent groundworks in 2009/2010 recorded no additional archaeologically significant remains.

Map

September-November 2008. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Sheringham Shoals Offshore Windfarm Grid Connection cable (Trenches 114 and 115).
The two trenches excavated at this location revealed a single pit and three ditches.
The pit contained burnt flints and a single worked flint flake and was therefore potentially prehistoric in date.
An unexcavated north-north-east to south-south-west aligned ditch in the northernmost trench was dated by post-medieval pottery sherds observed in its fill and an adjacent perpendicular ditch was probably of a similar date. These ditches may correspond with former field boundaries visible on the late 19th-century 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map.
A north-east to south-west aligned ditch in the trench to the south was of unknown date.
