NHER 62866 (Building record) - Bridge Terrace, 24 to 38 (even) Gaywood Road

(S1) describes this terrace of eight houses as a very attractive terrace of small houses typical of its date with use of local building material (the gable end is of carstone). Stone plaque with name on west end. Nice dormers with wooden bargeboards and finials; these are repeated at the back of the houses. One set of original 2 over 2 horned sashes with original 3 over 3 horn-less sash in dormer. Nice moulded brick cornice. Door and window heads have splayed gauged bricks with stone keystone and end mouldings (similar to those at No. 41 Extons Road, NHER 62846). These are linked by white brick single course strings. Ditto two-course at eaves level. Terrace angled to fit road curve. Flemish bond; carstone side gables. (S1) notes that these houses were once largely occupied by railway workers and speculates that they may have been built as railway workers' cottages. They stand beside the King's Lynn Dock Railway (NHER 13592) which opened in 1849.
