Summary

A chapel was originally erected at Highgate by Wesleyan Reformers in 1850. This chapel was rebuilt in 1883, and, with the adjoining cottage (NHER 62873) is all that remains of the mid-19th century area known as Highgate.

Map

(S1) describes this as a red brick chapel; Flemish bond with dogtooth detail to north (entrance front) gable under slate roof. Round arched doorway with a round headed window to each side. Chamfered stone door & windowheads. East side wall angled half way along to fit curve of road: 2 flat-topped windows with stone heads N of angle. A plaque on the chapel reads 'Primitive Methodist Chapel 1850 Rebuilt 1883'.
This chapel and the attached house (NHER 62873) are all that remains of the mid-19th century developments at Highgate (S2).
