Summary

This former public house dates from the early 1820s. It originally included a bowling green, tea gardens, a shrubbery and stables for eight horses. It was converted to a private residence in 1985.

According to (S1) the Free Bridge opened in 1821, although (S2) reports that it was described as new-built in 1823 when it was first offered for sale or to let. At that time it was described as including a bowling green and extensive gardens fitted up as tea gardens and planted with shrubberies. It also included stabling for eight horses. The site is labelled 'Freebridge Hotel' on (S3).
