Full Description
May 2018. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed route of Lound to Gorleston Water Pipeline (Trenches 16-18).
The three trenches excavated at this location revealed three ditches, a possible post-hole and a probable natural tree-throw hollow, none of which produced any dating evidence.
The three ditches were exposed in a trench excavated at TG 5031 0118 and all corresponded with previously identified east-to-west aligned linear cropmarks thought to represent field boundaries of probable post-medieval date (NHER 45155). The northernmost trench also coincided with a cropmark in this group but this was found to have no surviving sub-surface remains.
Information from report uploaded to OASIS, HER copy awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 2 October 2019.
May 2018. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of temporary construction compound in north-west corner of field (used during installation of Lound to Gorleston Water Pipeline).
No archaeological significant features or deposits were recorded during topsoil stripping at this location. There was therefore no evidence for surviving subsurface remains associated with the extensive cropmark trackway mapped in this part of the field (NHER 45174).
Finds were limited to a small number of worked flints of probably Neolithic to Bronze Age date.
Information from report uploaded to OASIS, HER copy awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 2 October 2019.
